Key areas to consider when protecting your home from hurricane damage

With hurricane season here, it's essential to ensure that your home is well-prepared to withstand the potential impact of severe weather. CCS Home Maintenance specializes in top-notch home maintenance to protect your property and give you peace of mind.

Here is some practical advice on where to look to see if your home has any potential weak spots.

Tip #1 - Roof Inspection and Repairs

We recommend that you engage experts to examine your roof, identifying any vulnerabilities or areas needing repair.

By addressing these issues proactively, you can prevent water leaks and structural damage during heavy rainfall or high winds.

This is in our top three list of priorities.

Tip #2 - Gutter Cleaning and Maintenance

Properly functioning gutters are crucial for redirecting water away from your home's foundation. Get them cleaned and maintain your gutters, ensuring they are free from debris and blockages that could lead to flooding or water damage. Tip #3 - Tree Trimming and Pruning:

Overhanging branches and weak trees pose a significant threat during hurricanes. A skilled arborist should be engaged to assess and trim trees around your property, minimizing the risk of falling limbs or uprooted trees causing damage to your home or nearby power lines.

This is also a top priority.

Tip #4 - Window and Door Inspections

You should inspect the integrity of your windows and doors, reinforcing or repairing them as necessary to withstand the force of high winds and flying debris.

Tip #5 - Emergency Generator

Nothing is more frustrating than having an emergency generator and it not being ready for a power outage and failing to start. Review your maintenance records, check the battery and fuel, and perform a power-outage simulation start and run.

(We also install emergency generators if you'd like one)

Tip #6 - Check Carbon Monoxide (CO) Sensors

Check that your home’s smoke and CO sensors function properly to avoid your family succumbing to CO poisoning. It is ALL TOO EASY!!!

As these detectors are critical to safety we consider checking these to be a top priority.

We check these on every maintenance visit, replacing batteries to inexpensively avoid the "chirp, chirp" high-up in the house.
